Out Now: "The Whale Fall at the End of the Universe" in Clarkesworld!

Updated: Sep 24, 2023

My story is out now! It's about a they/them-pronouned space mermaid who, while drifting in space, stumbles on the carcass of a space whale that has become a home and a meal for many aliens. I'm having a hard time writing summaries for this story without using the word "space" at least three times, which is how it should be, I think. Like I said in my last blog, this is the most alien story I've ever written, and I'm excited to share it.

I'm really thrilled for this to be published, especially in Clarkesworld! And this cover by Thomas Chamberlain-Keen is gorgeous! Wow!! I'm also looking forward to reading my table of contents partners--I'll probably do a livetweet read of it on twitter this week or next weekend.

Some of you might remember that I had one space mermaid story come out before! That was "The Mermaid and the Pirate" in Queerly Loving Volume 2. That is a very different story! It is an f/f romance adventure set on a spaceship. (I also have a non-space mermaid story I'm shopping around! Hopefully someone will take it!) This trend in my writing is fairly recent and I'm not sure why I like writing about fish people so much. Maybe it makes me feel in touch with my ancient fish ancestors.

If you want to keep in touch with my work, you can always follow me on twitter, but an even better way is to subscribe to my mailing list. Right now, I only plan to send about two emails a year, so I won't clog up your inbox!
